In addition to providing minimally invasive surgical procedures to address a wide range of gynecological issues, the providers at Clifton OB/GYN routinely perform nonsurgical procedures as well. Among these in-office procedures are:
Cervical dilation – This procedure is performed to open the cervix (the entrance to the uterus) during childbirth, miscarriage, or gynecological surgery. Dilation may occur naturally, but if not, it can be induced through medical means.
IUD insertion and removal – An intrauterine device (IUD) is a small T-shaped plastic device that is inserted into the uterus to prevent fertilization of an egg by damaging or killing sperm. The skilled gynecologists at Clifton OB/GYN can insert or remove an IUD in a matter of minutes during a normal office visit.
We offer a choice of IUDs. Mirena® uses the hormone progestin to prevent pregnancy and is effective for up to 5 years. ParaGard® is a nonhormonal IUD. Thin copper wire wrapped around the device prevents pregnancy by repelling sperm. It is effective for up to 10 years.
IUI fertility injections – If you and your spouse/partner have decided to pursue intrauterine insemination to get pregnant, our doctors can inject sperm into your uterus right in our office. Many women use fertility drugs in conjunction with IUI to increase their chances of conceiving.
Sterilization – Women who no longer wish to have children can undergo a quick procedure for permanent, irreversible birth control called Essure®. The gynecologist places tiny inserts in the fallopian tubes. Scar tissue then grows around the inserts, which blocks sperm from traveling to the uterus. No incision is necessary and there is little, if any, discomfort associated with the procedure.
Treatment for abnormal menstrual bleeding – Heavy bleeding during your menstrual cycle can be reduced or totally eliminated using NovaSure® endometrial ablation. During the procedure, your doctor uses precisely measured radiofrequency energy to remove the lining of the uterus. This in-office procedure typically takes less than 5 minutes.
